Sometimes you feel lazy, lethargic, the desire to procrastinate for a work that is fairly easy if you focus your time on it. There are these such things as "motivation quotes", so what are they? I remembered that during quarantine, a physical education teacher, had almost a motivation quote everyday for us. These quotes one might say, at a glance are just random arrangement of words slapped between two fancy quotations.

However, they are not these quotes, when thoroughly read gives immense power to the reader at the moment. Now how does this work? It is almost as if something suddenly click and triggered an electron in your brain that started to get your blood pumping again.

The reason behind this is that the words alone might not really mean anything but together, power surges through them. This is actually pretty fascinating to think about which other than called motivation quotes can be called power quotes as I like to say. Motivation quotes mostly bring the most work and power into workouts usage and it brings that determination in the human mind.

As of searching up motivation quotes on Google, the first images of quotes that pop out no matter which one involves a sense of road and success. These words urge you to push forward and although you have felt that you have reached the max point.... or the deepest point of life never give up and there is a road ahead of you. This right here is the sheer power of these quotes and the words that strengthen them are usually such as true, come, pursue, everything, the moment, success, best, chances etc. What is really noticeable between the words I called out is that there is hope. Life without a goal or even attempt of pursuing it characterized as failure and a lost chance to achieve and excel at life.

Hi Andrew,
I agree with how you think that motivational quotes have power. After all, motivation is the driving force of life. The only reason why people keep going is because they can see the light at the end. However, while I do enjoy some motivational quote, I find that a lot of them invoke toxic positivity. Many of them say that you need to keep working at 100% or you are not doing enough. So I guess the genre of the quotes is very important. We have to find a good balance between working for the future and enjoying the current moment relaxingly.

Hey Andrew
Sometimes, I find myself laughing at poorly worded inspirational quotes on Facebook, however, when you put more thought into the quotes that actually make sense, it’s like being on another level of enlightenment. We all learn some wisdom over the years, but we often forget them. Many motivational quotes are a great way to remind yourself that you have the power to push through whatever life throws at you! I sometimes wish that they made these motivational quote pictures on Google with better designs or visuals … I may just be a bit nitpicky, though.

I agree that motivational quotes hit hard, especially as they concisely summarize relatable problems many people experience. The wording in these quotes also hits hard as many of those quotes sound way too cool to not be scripted. More importantly, the quotes remind the readers that people have survived the odds against them. I wish that these quotes would be either paired with better visuals or completely remove them as the visuals can detract from the overall message.

Hi Andrew,
I actually watched a video about how some motivational quotes were stupid. As controversial as this concept sounds, I actually agree with the point that they made that these types of motivational quotes promoted the wrong things. I do think that motivational sayings have power in them, and that is why people need to take more consideration when preaching them. Influential people especially need to watch what they say, as it can affect many people at once. I hope that you can find a good person to draw inspiration from.

Hey Andrew,
Honestly, I see motivational quotes as something that is cheesy and never really effective. Maybe that comes from those videos that are like, “you ARE powerful, you ARE capable.” I feel like when it comes from somebody, it is much more effective compared to watching videos to find motivation because they are just trying to enforce something(I don’t know what, but it is definitely not motivation to me). Regardless, motivation from people that you talk to to in my opinion are the most effective.

Hi Andrew,

Motivational quotes are really impactful when you first realize the meaning behind them, but as time goes on, they get less and less powerful. I have like 4 canvases in my room that have motivational phrases on them and one that everyone points to is the one above my bathroom "now or never". Yes I understand is at the wrong place but it really meant something to me before people pointed it out that it is right above the bathroom.

Sincerely,
Mrinmayee

Hi Andrew,
I thought your post was interesting. I agree with you on how motivational quotes can be so powerful. Even though they are often only one sentence, the way the words are phrased makes them have such a large impact. One quote that had a large impact on me is “Holding onto anger is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die” from Buddha. Even though this quote wasn’t primarily designed to be inspirational, reminding myself of this quote has definitely motivated me to focus more on positive thoughts instead of negative ones.

Hi Andrew,
Motivational quotes are so powerful, they motivate us to finish the tasks we have and to strive for the long term rewards rather than the short term ones. Although they don’t necessarily give you an energy boost like an energy drink, they definitely shape our thoughts in the moment. We think to ourselves, this is a chance for me to continue working hard and not give up or just to give in to procrastination. Motivational quotes encourage us to keep going even when it gets tough, to keep going even if we are tired or worn out. I think that is the goal of motivational quotes, to help us keep our eyes on the prize.

Sincerely,
Faith Tong
