Language Carries Emotions
Words in general, through texting, a screen, on paper they all are the same and are tools that express and describe something. It can be used to describe something, something that could harm somebody or in the best scenarios complement and make someone's days better. The application for each is different, for example complaining at a store because the service is not up to par can be very verbal and dig into the employee's skin and touch their heart. This can easily cause and make their day worse than it was already. Other applications may be calmer and settle like a greeting as in "Good Morning" or "Hi" just to be used as a wakeup call or just to alleviate someone's mood at that time stamp. Different scenarios change the way words are expressed and the power of the words would differ by the way the receiver perceives it at that specific time. It is almost as a power meter exists for words; one side for how nice the word is applied and another for how harsh the word is applied. Words can be great tools at one point of view but can also be a harmful weapon at times. When writing essays, stronger words can help proceed and strengthen the argument and connect ideas making it into a more influential and easier to follow essay. How may a word's meaning have changed on different occasions? What factors determines the tones of words when brought up at a situation? How are words emphasized differently based on the person's status?

I think that the tone of a sentence is mostly conveyed through body language (when talking face-to-face with people). If someone is visibly happy, I’ll know that their words are fueled by positive emotions; same with the opposite. In written text, it may be a bit harder to tell, but there are ways to determine what the author’s tone and/or attitude is. Word choice is especially important. For example, euphemism is utilized in written text; a mild or indirect word that substitutes another word/phrase that is too harsh, blunt, or not appropriate. By using a euphemism, the author obviously thinks that the inappropriate word is … well, inappropriate.

I agree with how both specific words and tone can convey a different story. An example is the difference between calling someone "goofy" and "funny." While they may have a similar meaning upfront, they have different connotations. The thing about the nuances of a language is that a person has to be well versed in that specific language to pick up all of the details. This is why immigrants often have a hard time deciphering the real meaning behind people's words.
I agree with the fact that words mean different things in different situations and this can be complicated sometimes especially when you just forget the context of the conversation or had no idea from the beginning. This happens a lot to me because I simple "forgot" to pay attention and laugh it off. But anyways, I think that words really do matter especially because sometimes we don't know how people might take them.

I also think that tone is a super important variable in language. As an actor, the way that you say things really changes the emotion behind the words and the scene. Certain intonations and word choices really help to push the emotion as well. I think it's pretty interesting to see how people use emotion within their words in day-to-day life. You can get a pretty good grasp on a person's personality just from their tone and the way that they choose their words. It's super important to choose the right words for the right scenarios, so that you leave a good impression while also conveying the intended message.
I liked your example of when you described how a customer’s words could affect the salesperson. Words can really affect people more than we realize such as making them feel more uplifting or downcast. Words also affect our moods and how we speak. For example, I find myself kinder and happier towards others when I am in a good mood due to a good day, but find myself doing the opposite when things don’t go my way. I think we, as people need to learn to control the unintentional words that come out of our mouths sometimes because of the impact it can have on people we know or even strangers.

I agree how in many situations, words can be interpreted differently even if it was meant well. Tone genuinely is the "emoji" of in person as with masks on now, that is how we can differentiate whether one is mad, sad, happy, or annoyed. Even just wording something can make it either sound right or wrong, it just depends on the person. Thank you for bringing this topic up!
I completely agree that words can either hurt someone or bring someone satisfaction. One rude and hurtful comment can make someone’s day horrible, it can really hurt someone. So I think using nicer words would be much more appreciated. I also agree with the stronger you your words are the stronger your essay can be, and I 100% agree with that. Thank you for sharing that picture, its now in my camera roll waiting to be used.
