The power of knowledge

Knowledge is everything these days. It gives us the upper hand in any situation. It grants us survival and defensive tactics, the ability to do exceedingly well on an exam, and, most importantly, how to create and obtain power. Knowledge can often be perceived as dumb, boring, and "nerd-like." Little do they know knowledge is the foundation of the whole world.

Such knowledge has given us the greatest gift to shape society. We use all our abilities to make life more efficient, easy, and technical. Creations after creations get better, bigger, faster, and more expensive. People of higher status, also lower status civilians, strive to create more, better, and more competent creations and inventions the world has never seen.

We have self-driving cars, touch screen flip phones, doorbells with security cameras, and assembly lines based on technology; it saves us time and effort. It helps save lives of people in need, helps us function, allows the world to gain an education during a pandemic, and people can now work from the comfort of staying at their house while doing work! Our knowledge has given us and the entire world power; it provides us with the opportunity to conquer the world and remain dominant by creating technological breakthroughs to help make our life a little easier and much more fruitful. We use our knowledge to develop, unite, and make the world a better place. But could we still function this great and happy if technology didn't exist without our knowledge? Could we still thrive? Would we still be civilized?

Hi Isabel
The power of knowledge is immense; it’s actually pretty scary. The great thing about it is that when in possession of knowledge, you hold the power to do several things: share it, apply it, or keep it (all for the worse or for the better, and that’s the scary part). Technology has allowed a massive influx of knowledge to be shared and I think that’s pretty amazing. But of course, there is always going to be misinformation that spreads like wildfire. What can we really do about that? After all, they do say that knowledge is power and every human has an innate desire to gain knowledge.

Hi Isabel. It is amazing how important knowledge is in life. I think one of the best advancements in technology was the Internet, for solely that reason. My grandparents would sometimes talk about how whenever they had a project for school, they would have to go to the library to do research. I can honestly not imagine doing such a thing since now it is so easy to be able to access information on many different topics on the Internet. I think that is one of the reasons why so many countries are trying to expand Wi-Fi to more places because it can help people become more educated.

Hi Isabel,
I agree with how knowledge is power. But is there some time when not knowing is better: "Oblivion is bliss." In dystopian novels, such as "The Giver," I always wonder if I would be happier if I was brainwashed or if I knew what was happening. If I can't change my current situation, I feel like it would be better if I didn't know. Without technology, I don't think we would be able to progress. We would still be isolated, people would be dying from preventable diseases, and our success would be far below its current level. Although technology has its pros and cons, it is an essential part for human evolution to reach where it is now.

Hi Isabel,

I liked how you framed your blog and talked about different scenarios and ended with a question. I agree with your opinion that knowledge is the ultimate base for everything. The biggest CEOs have a lot of knowledge and were creative which earned them their job. Without this knowledge and only creativity, they wouldn't be in a position that high. It all comes down to education at the end and it is a shame that education in the US is abnormally expensive.

Sincerely,
Mrinmayee

Hi Isabel,
I agree that knowledge is one of the most powerful things in this world. In war, knowledge is practically priceless. People will give or lose their lives just because of knowledge. I truly believe that you cannot get by without knowledge. All careers require knowledge of some sort. That's why it's so interesting to see how we pass knowledge to each other, whether it be from generation to generation, or from person to person. I feel like knowledge is a cycle. It also starts out untrustworthy and new, and slowly gets refined to become more reliable and common knowledge over time.

Hi Isabel,
I agree with your point on how knowledge is not only powerful but is responsible for new inventions and breakthroughs in technology! Without knowledge we wouldn’t be able to come up with such advanced ideas that make our lives better everyday. Knowledge is also something all of us have and can use to make the world better. It’s interesting how in the history book most inventions are made by those who think creatively or outside the box. These ordinary people all of a sudden modernize processes that were usually slower or longer and made life more quick-paced.

Sincerely,
Faith Tong
I agree that knowledge is power and that language is the medium for power and the ability to navigate the world. Only through language were people throughout history able to build off the thoughts of others and usher change in a positive direction. I also find it quite interesting how knowledge about everything through language is expanding at a seemingly exponential rate, as what use to be the most valuable knowledge back a few thousand years ago is now merely middle school knowledge.

Hey Isabel, I totally get how knowledge is really a super language of its own; something that is almost impossible to read in my opinion. Knowledge like you said brings new technologies and just more amazing products that many can not imagine come to life. Knowledge allows us to understand how to socialize, remember, and comprehend what is going on. Thank you so much for bringing this topic up!

Hi Isabel,
I agree knowledge is something everyone should have, well at least the basic foundations for it. We have memories to help exceed other knowledge most often people with knowledge are depicted as old in story books and novels. Everyone from the town goes to hear their advice on a problem as they have mostly experienced anything at least once in a lifetime. It is also indeed scary that without knowledge we wouldn't have had technology right now all credits to scientists and others who built their experiment upon previous failures learning from their peer's mistakes only to improve.
