Throughout the blogs we did throughout this quarter, we have been talking about memories, how memories make who you are and the different types of memories. We all know that photographic memory plays a play in memorizing pictures or a certain scene. But have you also felt those moments when you look at an object in your room and you remember something? Other times it may be an event associated with the object. I think this is pretty fascinating as we would remember things that we might not have remembered otherwise. But when it comes to losing stuff, we associate the objects by trying to retrace when we last had them.
Have you also experienced where you are trying to find something but can't remember where you put it? You would most likely respond to thinking the last place you were with this object or when you last saw it. It might be the last time you cleaned your room and you put it somewhere. Then about a few days, later you see it lying openly somewhere. You must be like oh "where was this object when I was trying to find it?" and it might be weird. It is always that you thought you searched that specific spot on the day but turns out you didn't search thoroughly enough. This commonly happens when I am trying to find a child's sock or a toy they hid as I help my mom watch the children. I usually just find the objects days later, which is no -biggie but sometimes toys could be gone for months. And guess what.. I found all the objects stacked behind a play kitchen that I never bothered to look behind. The objects got there in the first place as there was a small slot where a plastic cover used to be.
Now I have been getting faster at searching for this, as objects commonly drop at specific areas where are lost. The next time I just get more knowledge than previously finding stuff way more quicker. Commonly, I have lost some cards or a cloth mask or something small. Turns out they were all in my pocket when I reached into my pockets a few days later. That was a big relief as most things lost are pretty precious and small. You would realize that many of the things lost are being unconscious of actually having lost the object until you really use it.

It’s almost sad how many times I walk into a room to get something and immediately forget what I was gonna do. Oftentimes, I have to walk out and continue doing the task that I was supposed to be doing to remember what I was gonna get. I also misplace items many times, most often my phone. I partially blame my mother for this, as I would usually put items on the floor and then my mother would pick them up and place them somewhere else. Thank you so much for this article on how to find lost items; I really need it.
This blog was extremely informational and interesting because I somehow lose everything I have ever owned. Just the other day, I, without thinking, put my earphone case in the side pocket of my backpack while talking to someone and went to my first-period class. There, I freaked out because I couldn’t feel my earphone case in my hoodie pockets (obviously they weren’t there). I asked around for a bit before giving up, but then I suddenly remembered that they were in my backpack pocket! I felt quite embarrassed for a while, but I do think it is funny now. I just need to keep reminding myself to put my belongings someplace where I will most definitely check first.

Thank you for the tips! I lose my things a lot which is really sad. Sometimes I find them years later after I already forgot that I lost them. Recently, I lost 2 erasers in a row, which was super sad, because one of them was really new. Now, I always pay close attention to where my eraser is every time I take it out. I think the reason why people lose things is probably because a lot of us are autopilot, so we don't really notice the things we do, which leads to us forgetting where we put things. In the future, I would like to work on being more mindful when I do things, so I remember where I put my things, and I will also apply the tips you shared.
Thank you for the link, I almost bursted out laughing when I saw that there is an actual website describing how to find lost objects. I hate the feeling of not knowing where I put things and especially when it is my phone because the ringer is always off and there is no way that I can find it. Tracing back your steps is a good idea for finding something, but it doesn't always work and you just get lost.

I used to lose things so easily before since I had a lot of stuff in my room and always forgot where I last put something. A tip I would suggest is cleaning out your entire room after maybe a few months or a year. I swear it’s like a miracle, all of a sudden all the things I was looking for appear in the places I least expect! Now I try my best to stay organized so I won’t lose things easily and get scolded for it.

I appreciate how this blog a lot because I lose a lot of things as well. I have lost my headphones multiple times (but one time was at Daiso, and I never got it back) and I had thought it was in the void, only for it to be in my bag. My mom always yells at me to clean my room(which I will do once school ends because I need to deep clean) but at the same time, I am able to find stuff in a messy room.
